Pile of Books

Pile of Books

Back to Uni this evening with my first class of “Elements of Computing.”

I have just checked the web site and have got some information off there, the timetable looks to be hardware for the first semester and software for the 2nd. I will probably prefer the 2nd semester which will involve an introduction to programming and system design. I am sort of hoping we will get to use Linux in some of the lessons and learn some command line stuff.

So far there is no information available for the Creative Photoshop class but if that is as good as I’m hoping I might set up a photoshop tips and how to blog.

Stay tuned for a review of this evenings class.

Just a general gossip!

Just wanted to drop by and say hello. As I mentioned in my last post I have been buying my share of interweb real estate. i have managed to pick up 6 sites or domains and have most of the up and running now. A while a go I read a post on Chris Guthries blog about making $100 per month on 10 sites rather than having 1 blog that earned $1000. He has updated his theory with an example of his first site to earn $100.

I have taken this theory in mind but look to be approaching it in a different way. All being well on Monday I will receive $170 for some advertising on one of my new sites, although this consits of 2 - year long links it does work out to be around $14 per month for a full year so will go a long way to helping reach the $100 target.

With a bit of luck I’ll be hitting that target on most if not all of the 6 sites I have purchased/set up.

On another note I’ll be abck at Uni next week so there might actually be some fresh content on here. Its been a while since I’ve taken a pay per post opportunity (especially on here) so things should pick up a little. Study guides and Uni updates here we come.

Working on my online portfolio

Its been a while since I’ve actually been online to blog, but I have been online quite a bit. I have been looking into and thinking of ways to increase my online income. As I mentioned a few posts ago, you can actually earn money from blogging and recently I have found this to be quite lucrative.

I’ve been reading up on site/blog flipping, (the method of buying a site and selling it for a quick profit). It looks like an interesting concept that I will try but add my own spin on. So rather than building a portfolio page showing the work I have done and the skills I have developed both at Uni and while studying at Computeach I have instead been looking to increase my online real estate holdings and buying a few sites/domains.

I have already bought a domain and have another blog up on it over at Some Backup, please go and check it out and let me know what you think. I think I have agreed terms for another domain and am in the middle of transferring another site to my hosting. As well as these I have offers in on another 3-4 sites. I’m not talking big money here, so far the spend has been under $300 for 2 domains and a site, I am looking to be spending around $200 on the next site though with others I’m looking at also approaching that amount.

Its getting rather addictive and my brief time away from here has shown that I don’t exactly have loads of free time as it is. With a bit of luck I can make every penny and more back on these investments and hopefully not get too attached to any of the sites to not want to sell them at a later date.

How many sites do you have? Have you considered site/blog flipping?

2 weeks today….

and i’ll be heading off to Uni.

Its the start of the 1st semester in my 2nd year of the 6 year long course. I am quite looking forward to get this year out of the way as next year I will be able to pick up some more web relevant modules. The first semester will be quite easy with only 2 modules running and they run into the 2nd semester so final assignments will not be due until well into the new year.

It’s been nice to have a break form it and go straight home to relax after work but I guess I need to be doing something else I will just get stuck in a rut. The lessons in 2 weeks time will probably be nothing over taxing either, a run through the schedule of the module will probably be about it. I have sent of my forms for a new Ucard but have not received anything back as yet so fingers crossed everything has gone through ok.

Well the count down begins, its been an interesting summer where I have blogged about all sorts of crap so lets see what the Autumn and Winter bring.

Laptop Advice

When it comes to buying a laptop there is often mixed advice that you can get. Of course you wan the best laptop available for the price you have but where should you start looking?

Latptopical.com offers some great services if you find yourself in this situation. The site is easy to navigate and offers a whole load of information from a very in depth “buyers guide” to a laptop news section. This section is ideal for if you want to stay ahead of the crowd and know you laptop is not going to be out dated with a new model in the coming weeks. I myself have fell victim of this lately, I thought I was getting a great deal on a laptop with 2 gig of ram only to find that 2 months later the same model now comes with double that.

The site offers individual laptop reviews on each and every model imaginable. What is exceptional is that they cover everything from the latest Sony Vaio laptop to the releases from Apple.

If you are looking at getting a laptop in the near future, it may be worth bookmarking for later reference.
