Free credits via APL

In my last post I mentioned that I had completed 6 units totalling 60 credits, thats not strictly true.
I completed 5 and was given the module “Introduction to Access Databases” for nothing. How come? Through a great little thing called APL - Accredited via Prior Learning.
What is Accredited via Prior Learning (APL)?
This is a method of rewarding your previous studies where you have proven that you meet all of the current requirements for the particular module, unit or course you are claiming for. In my case, I had already completed the ECDL Advanced Database module and when I saw the syllabus for the course it was clear to me taht I would be going over ground that I had already covered. I spoke to the course manager about dropping the module but with it being a mandatory module I had to compelte it one way or the other. The course manager was very helpful and took a look at the specification for the ECDL module I had passed and agreed that it could be awarded. All I had to do then was provide the certificate as proof.
And that was that, 10 free credits.
